The exterior of 54 Mountpleasant Square in Ranelagh, Dublin 6, is nothing if not pretty, with its ivy and Virginia creeperclad walls. Inside, this two-storey over basement terraced house has many original features and has been restored with a dramatic use of colour. Due to be auctioned by Douglas Newman Good on November 15th, the house is expected to fetch over £600,000.

The internal layout is versatile but, in keeping with its Georgian style, it has the main reception rooms on the first floor.

The double-fronted house has steps leading up to a period door and into a hall with diagonal quarry floor tiles and the original timber staircase, which has been stripped and sanded. Off the hall are two double bedrooms, each with sash windows and ceiling cornicing. One of the rooms has an en suite bathroom with a corner bath and timber panelling. There is another bathroom on this floor.

The main reception room on the first floor has purple walls and original timber flooring, with a fitted gas fire and a fireplace with timber surround. Also at this level is the kitchen/ breakfastroom with antique American pine flooring and built-in units with drawers and cupboards revealing cleverly-disguised nooks for storage. Two Belfast sink units have brass taps and the quarry-tiled hearth has a brick fireplace with timber surround.

A double bedroom nearby has a Velux window, and an unusual built-in wooden bed with storage underneath. Also at this level is a bathroom with brass taps and a skylight.

The fourth double bedroom is at garden level where there is also a kitchen/livingroom, with fitted units, beechwood flooring and recessed lighting. A utility room completes the accommodation.

To the rear is a garden measuring 60 ft by 22 ft, with mature shrubbery and trees, and an outside lavatory.

The house looks across the square at an angle, and is located at the city end of Ranelagh. It does not have off-street parking, but a residential disc-parking scheme applies.
