Classic elements with a contemporary feel was the winning combination at the Hamilton Osborne King Dublin Institute of Technology interior design competition grand finale earlier this week.

The competition for third year interior design students in DIT sought to find innovative, inspirational and practical designs for new apartment developments.

The students were required to provide an innovative spatial planning and interior design solution for a standard one, two or three-bedroom apartment. The winner of the competition was announced at a reception in the Civic Offices, Wood Quay on Tuesday.

Sarah Johnson from Castleknock clinched the top prize of a top-of-the-range laptop for her design of a three-bedroom apartment which struck a balance between clever concepts and practical considerations. A design by Ekaterina Karneychick from Russia was highly commended by the judges. The 30 projects are being exhibited in the Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8 till tomorrow.
