A detached four-bedroom house in Blackrock, Co Dublin, with a pretty address - 1 Pear Tree Field, Carysfort Downs - was built nine years ago on the site of a former pear and apple orchard originally owned by the St John of God's order.

It is one of eight houses in a quiet cul-de-sac off Carysfort Downs, a development at the top end of Carysfort Avenue. It has an advised minimum value (AMV) of €2.2 million prior to auction on May 19th through Sherry FitzGerald.

The couple who own it lived in Boston and have given their home a fresh slightly New England flavour, with tongue and groove panelling and timber floors in many rooms. Accommodation downstairs in the 206sq m (2,220sq ft) house includes a drawingroom with a bay window, a family room, a bright sunroom and a large kitchen/breakfastroom with cherrywood units.
