Garden designer and RTE presenter Dermot O'Neill is selling his three-bedroom home in Dublin's SCR area - an interesting double fronted redbrick house on the corner of Walworth Road and Victoria Street. With a floor area of 1,000 sq ft, 13 Walworth Road has a cosy Victorian-style interior and, as one might expect, the garden is a gem. It may be just a tiny railed patch at the side of the house, but it is green and busy, with specimen shrubs and trees arranged around a cobbled circle set into a small paved patio.

On the other side of the house, double gates lead to an enclosed patio with offstreet parking, a rarity in this area.

The property is expected to fetch £280,000-plus at auction through Douglas Newman Good on October 20th. Located close to the Irish Jewish Museum, the house has kept many of its period features and is decorated in warm Victorian colours. The doors have been stripped back and the cornices are intact, as are the fireplaces. The front door opens directly off the street and into a bright hallway, with the stairs straight ahead, the drawingroom to the right and a study/bedroom to the left.

The high-ceilinged drawingroom, which has windows to the front and side, has been painted a coral colour and has an ornate cast-iron and marble fireplace, dado rail and cornice work. The study, or bedroom, has a window on to the street, as well as cornice work and fitted shelving.

Towards the end of the hallway, there is a long room that is both diningroom and sittingroom. It has tongue-and-groove wainscoting, a cork floor, fitted shelving and a gas fire set into an old-style cast-iron fireplace with wood surround. Sliding glass doors lead to the patio which, given the height of the walls and the double gates from the street, is extremely private.

The small working kitchen is off the dining area. Galley-like and painted yellow, it has fitted presses and a sink by a window onto the patio. Back in the hallway, there is generous understairs storage as well as a hot-press.

Upstairs, the smaller of the two bedrooms has a built-in wardrobe, a cast-iron original fireplace and window to the side of the house. The second, and main, bedroom has two windows and a larger, also original, castiron fireplace with decorative curve.

Both rooms share a bathroom which, unusually, has a large sash window to the front of the house.

The house is ready to walk into and, for all its good looks, the garden has been designed for low maintenance.
