Fingal County Council has joined a European network designed to promote local economies by developing run-down parts of Dublin's northside.

The initiative links Fingal to a network of local authorities situated on the edges of capital cities in the Edge Cities Recite II Project, and is supported by the European Commission. The project will involve the Enterprise Board and the Chambers of Commerce in Swords, Howth/Sutton/Baldoyle and Blanchardstown, co-ordinating their efforts towards "the inter nationalisation" of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It will also support the development of employment opportunities for marginalised groups in the Blanchardstown area.

The project will work with local partners in less developed areas to assist unemployed young people to find work. The Edge Cities Recite II Project will run until December 2001.
