Gormleys Dublin art auction


Belfast-based art auctioneers Gormleys is returning to the Dublin market with its first auction since November last year. The venue is the Radisson Blu St Helen's Hotel, Stillorgan Road, where viewing begins tomorrow afternoon ahead of the auction on Tuesday, November 12th, at 7pm. Some of the paintings are from the collection of the late Mervyn and Pat Solomon who were Belfast collectors, including work by some well-known artists. Among them Women Washing Clothes in A Canal by Walter F Osborne, €20,000-€25,000 and Red Rocks and Sea by Roderic O'Conor, €10,000-€15,000.

Aside from the Solomon collection, there is a good choice of affordable paintings by, among others, Brian Ballard, Markey Robinson, Kenneth Webb, Aloysius O'Kelly, Tony O'Malley, Gladys Maccabe, James Humbert Craig and Maurice Wilks. Dublin artist Gerard Byrne's, large oil-on-canvas depiction of Celtic Tiger good times, The Party, is estimated at €1,500-€2,000.
