Dubliners snap up homes in new suburb of Mullingar

Who would have though that Mullingar could ever be considered a Dublin suburb, but we are here to tell you that it is. Last weekend Seamus Ross's company, Menolly, sold 33 new houses in a development on the outskirts of Mullingar, 49 miles from O'Connell Street. Most surprising was the fact that no less than 26 of them were bought by young Dubliners prepared to tackle the commute. The big attraction was price, with three-bed semis starting at £117,500. A similar house closer to the city is now making anything between £160,000 and £200,000 simply because there aren't enough of them around. Down the line, these young voters will undoubtedly be hassling the politicians for an upgrade for a railway link between Mullingar and the city, which like a lot of other services, is woefully inadequete at the moment.
