FRANCE:A FRENCH country house - bastide - bought by artist Paul Cezanne's sister Rose in 1886 is for sale for €9.35 million through agent Emile Garcin.

The property in Aix-en-Provence dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries and stands on nearly 50 acres. The artist painted the dovecote of the house.

The property has been refurbished in the past five years, and has living space of around 900sq m (9,687sq ft). Built around a Moorish-style patio with a central fountain, the house has many terrasses.

Accommodation includes an imposing diningroom and livingroom, large kitchen and seven bedrooms.

It also has a gym with a hammam and a vaulted wine cellar, and a number of outbuildings, including a 100sq m (1,076sq ft) caretaker's cottage. There is also a swimming pool.

The 50 acres include a 7.4-acre wheatfield, two vegetable gardens and plantations of olive, almond and fruit trees. The lawns are dotted with fountains and statues. The Cézanne house is 30 minutes' drive from Marseille airport, according to the agent.
