Bord rejects scheme of 180 homes planned for Sandyford

AN BORD Pleanála has refused Tudor Homes planning permission to build 180 residential units at Sandyford in Dublin 18.

Tudor Homes was looking to build the four-storey residential development on a site at Blackglen Road and Woodside Road, and on an undeveloped site close to Lamb Doyles pub.

The developer lodged a first party appeal to An Bord Pleanála after Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council's decision to refuse planning permission for 142 apartments in 11 three-storey plus dormer blocks, 36 three-bedroom semi-detached houses, two terraced houses and a crèche.

It submitted the appeal after Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council refused planning permission on the grounds that the height, bulk, scale and design would be "visually injurious" and that the Blackglen Road is substandard to serve the scale of development proposed.

The developer argued that the scheme is "an appropriate response" to the site's topography and is consistent with similar structures in the area.

It refers to other buildings of a similar height in the area, including Rockview, a four-storey residential scheme.

An Bord Pleanála supported Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council's view and said the deficiency in the road network serving the area and a lack of continuous footpath along the Blackglen Road between the site and Lambs Cross would endanger public safety.
