B & Q still in search of major outlet

DIY giant B & Q, which opened a major store in Belfast last weekend, is still looking for a suitable site in the Republic. Dublin-based traders are opposed to the idea of B & Q opening in the city suburbs because of fears that it would "hoover up" much of the DIY business in the city. The multiple opened a 140,000 sq ft store, including a 15,000 sq ft gardening centre, on Boucher Road in Belfast - something that would not be allowed south of the Border since the Government capped the size of retail warehouses at 64,583 sq ft. The B & Q putlet in Belfast has over 1.5 miles of aisles and more than 40,000 products.
