"Look Forward, Look Back, Look Around" is the invitation to this year's Heritage Week, which starts tomorrow and includes themes as diverse as music and megaliths, golden eagles and Galway heraldry, photography and the Phoenix Park.

The countless activities include a pageant celebrating the medieval origins of Fethard, Co Tipperary; a boat trip on the River Liffey with commentary by Pat Liddy; a walking tour of the history of Irish food; an explorations of hedgerows; and an exhibition at Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre detailing the excavations at Knowth (left). Many events are free, most are family-friendly, and there's a good mix of indoor and outdoor locations so the weather can't spoil things.

Organised by the Heritage Council, the week's full listings are available on the very comprehensive website www.heritageweek.ie, tel 1850-200878 or contact your local council's heritage officer.
