Dublin craft brewery Lineman launches new distinctive pale ale

A new beer arrived on my doorstep this afternoon. From Lineman, one of the most interesting craft breweries, there was a can of Fluid Dynamic, a new extra pale ale. This will form part of its core range, alongside the award-winning stout Astral Grains. The brewery set out to create a pale ale that was both sessionable and distinctive and would work on draught and in cans.

“After playing with the style and hop combos on beers like Vesper, Electric Avenue #2 and Dial Tone, we settled on the blend of Citra, Idaho 7 and Chinook for Fluid Dynamic,” said Mark Lucey, founder of Lineman Brewery.

“From these you get a nice spectrum of citrus aromas and flavours from grapefruit to sweet tangerine.”

In August, to celebrate the brewery’s second anniversary, Lineman released Transmission, a full-bodied, intensely hoppy double IPA, made using 100 per cent Irish malted barley.

The second sample was the Porterhouse Around the Clock 3 Imperial Stout. Its predecessor, Around the Clock 2, won the 2021 Beer of the Year. As with the previous releases, the beer is brewed over a 24-hour period using seven different malts and seven separate hop additions.

The third release has spent extra time, a total of 250 days, in freshly emptied bourbon casks from Dingle Distillery. Full-bodied, rich, complex and warming, it carries an ABV of 12.5 per cent without difficulty. There are layers of dried fruits, vanilla, caramel as well as abundant malt and dark coffee and bitter chocolate. Due to huge demand, there will be 10,000 bottles released, an increase from the 5,000 bottles for One and Two.
