Wear it out: For students watching their wallet, try granny’s wardrobe

Student on a budget Bronagh Buckley tells us how to get her look without overspending. A great way to start is in your family members wardrobes. Our grannies are often more fashionable than us these days so have a peak next time you go over to visit.

Student discounts and careful thrifting can also be a way to find standout pieces for half of what you would pay on the high street.

Shoes – Penneys, €17 The shoes are a classic short black suede boot that I came across in Penneys about four months ago and just couldn't leave them behind as they were only €17. They go with everything so I have got loads of wear out of them. Such a bargain!

Skirt – Mum's wardrobe, free! The skirt I'm wearing is an old skirt from my mom that she used to wear back in the 1980s. I love it! These skirts are all over the high street at the moment and I was lucky enough to find one at home, I love when my mum's clothes come back in to fashion like this.

Shirt – Nine Crows, €22 My shirt is from the small boutique on Dublin's quays called Nine Crows. When I saw it I fell in love with the detail on the collar and just had to get it as it was also only €22. Vintage always wears so well and I love to have a good root around the different stores in Dublin to find a bargain like this.

Rings – Topshop, €9 I'm going through a bit of a rings phase, I got my rings in Topshop. With my student discount of 10 per cent which meant I only had to pay €9! Rings like this can stain your fingers but just pop on a layer on clear nail varnish and that stops it happening.

Cardigan – Granny’s wardrobe, free The cardigan is one of my granny’s that I spotted in her wardrobe yesterday and had to steal.

Hat – Nine Crows, €32 Great hat, great boutique.

Tell us a bit about your personal style I'm really into the vintage look at the moment but I do like to wear high street clothing too and to mix them. I am a student so am always on the look out for a good deal which starts with raiding mum's wardrobe and ends with sales in town and thrifting in the vintage stores. This way I can keep my look individual and the likelihood is no one else will be wearing the same thing.

What are you most looking forward to this summer? I am excited to get the chance to wear all my festival outfits and get loads of cute summer clothes.
