BEADY EYE

Joanne Hynes, whose winter collection showing was a stylish affair in Minima, has launched her own whimsical handbag and accessories line. Pencil-case purses in bugle beaded silks, shoulder bags in cotton canvas with leather handles embellished with sequined peacock feather and deer motifs have a light-hearted touch. The animal brooches are jewelled, while the drop-crystal jewellery and feather-shaped earrings have been specially made in Italy. Stockists of her clothes and accessories in Ireland include Havana, The Design Centre, Tulle in Market Arcade, The Business in Nenagh, No 90 Clanbrassil Street, Dundalk and Designer Fusion, Cork.

NEW HEIGHTS

Every shop seems to be revamping this autumn, and Arnotts is no exception. The fashion balcony has been given a fresh approach with new names and existing collections bought with a more critical eye. The new labels, which include Catriona Hanly's jewellery, Jackpot and Sandwich, will be joined by Christian Lacroix jeans and Pucci hosiery, exclusive in Ireland to the store. A nail bar is on hand to sharpen the claws of keen fashion predators. This felted wool jacket photographed by Achim Liebold is by Sandwich (a Danish company), €230.

GRAND PLAN

Now that Betty Jackson no longer designs for Marks & Spencer's Autograph range (which has been substantially scaled back), those who love her clothes will have to search further afield for her label. One of her best selling outlets is Diffusion in Clontarf, but on the west coast, Les Jumelles in Upper Abbeygate Street, Galway, is the place to find this grape tweed coat with beaded detail and matching Katherine Hepburn-style trousers. Yours for €719 and €309 respectively - a great look if you have a grand to spare.

SYMBOLS IN SILVER

Joined hands and doves are traditional symbols of peace and friendship, and they have been translated into a new silver jewellery range by Mary Millrine of Mycin Fine Jewellery in Dublin's Castleknock. Millrine, who once made handpainted silks with similar motifs, has called the collection Peacemaker. It includes bracelets, rings, necklets, earrings, brooches and charms, and is on sale widely in Ireland, London and the US at prices from €40 to €86. A version in 9, 10 and 14-carat gold will be on sale from this month in Weirs at prices from €70-€450. For further information contact 01-8211576 or e-mail: mycin@eircom.net.

STARTING AT THE BOTTOM

"When I used to do shoe drawings for the magazines, I would get a certain amount for each shoe, so then I would count up my shoes to figure out how much I was going to get. I lived by the number of shoe drawings." So wrote Andy Warhol, who was an accomplished advertising illustrator and commercial artist before finding fame as a Pop Artist. A new book of his witty drawings of fanciful shoes, colourful fans and chic hats is the first collection of his fashion illustration work and is accessorised with his own observations. Andy Warhol Fashion has just been published by Thames & Hudson at £12.95 in the UK.
