European Bridge Championships to be held in Croatia

The 19th Ennis congress will be held next weekend in the Auburn Lodge Hotel

The European Bridge Championships will be held in Opatija, Croatia, from June 21st to July 2nd.

As a result of trials held by the Irish Bridge Union in the City West Hotel, Saggart, Ireland will be represented by T Hanlon, Dr H McGann, J Carroll, T Garvey, R Boland, M Moran, and G Barton (non-playing captain).

In their semi-final Barton’s team beat M and B Pattinson, M Rudzinski, R McMaugh, P Pigot and BJ O’Brien by 188imps to 77.

In the other semifinal, C Coyne, D MacAonghusa, J Heneghan and W Mevius beat D O'Gorman, T Walsh, Dr GM Keaveney and the Rev E Glynn by 170 to 106.

In the final for the Pat Walshe Trophy, Barton beat Coyne by 268 to 75. Tournament directors: F O’Boyle, M Basquille.

The inter-Golf Club bridge team championship (Mollie Fox Cup) will be played in Edmonstown golf club on February 3rd (7.30pm) and 10th. Entries close next Friday with Rory Egan (086 8192765). There will be a nine-hole singles Stableford with no green fees at 2pm on February 10th.
