The re-elevation of the once-humble burger to culinary pre-eminence continues apace with the arrival of a heavy-hitting new player in the booming burger joint business, writes Davin O'Dwyer

The esteemed Gourmet Burger Kitchen has landed in Temple Bar Square and Liffey Valley. GBK, not to be confused with the Ranelagh-based burger vendors, Gourmet Burger Company, is the brainchild of three New Zealanders, Greg Driscoll, Adam Wills and Brandon Allen. They opened their first restaurant in London and got their fellow Kiwi, Peter Gordon - the renowned chef behind London's Sugar Club and the Providores - to consult on their menu, giving that extra bit of gastronomic class to the enterprise.

More GBK locations are coming, apparently (see www.gbkinfo.com for details), while the homegrown Jo'Burger is also opening a second location soon, adding a Blackrock premises to their funky Rathmines joint at the end of this month. Just don't count the calories.
