Government is considering lowering income tax in bid to encourage Irish abroad to return

The Government is considering reform of the tax system to encourage emigrants to return home, it has emerged. The plan is to benchmark income tax for middle-income earners against countries like the UK, Australia, the US and Canada.

Ireland’s marginal tax rate (combining income tax, Universal Social Charge and PRSI) is 51 per cent.
