Saving face

It's a long day with numerous oven checks and heated kitchen moments (and that's before you even sit down for dinner). Make up artist Zoë Clarkshares her secrets for long-lasting make-up, so at least you will look good even if you've burnt the turkey.

PRIMERUsing a primer is a must to create a smooth surface and give foundation "grip" and staying power.

CONCEALERA wax/cream concealer will last longest. Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage is a make-up artist favourite and YSL's Touche Éclat illuminating pen brightens dark shadows.

FOUNDATIONOil-free formulas stay put best, since they don't contain the emollient ingredients that cause make up to slide off . My personal favourites are Bobbi Brown's Skin Foundation and YSL's Touche Éclat foundation, for a more oily skin Estée Lauder's Double Wear Light is great.

POWDERLock everything into place with loose powder. Choose a very sheer silky texture such as MAC's Select Sheer Loose Powder,

Tip: gently pat a powdered puff starting in the T-zone and working outwards.

BLUSHTo make blusher last, apply a little cream blusher onto the apples of your cheeks then dust a similar colour of powder blush on top.

EYESFor enduring eye make-up, use an eyelid primer such as Cosmetics a la Carte's Secret Light eyebase and then dust a nude-coloured matte shadow all over the lid up to the eyebrow. Liquid or gel liners last longer than pencils. Choose a waterproof mascara such as Giorgio Armani's Eyes to Kill.

LIPSFor long-lasting lipstick, here's a trick that turns any lipstick or gloss into a long-wearing product. Using a make-up puff, press a little loose powder around your mouth. This prevents the colour bleeding. Line lips and fill in with a pencil that matches your natural lip colour. Apply lipstick with a brush.

TOUCH-UPSBlotting papers are great for lifting any excess oil from your skin. Simply press the paper where you're oily and then roll it off your skin, no rubbing. MAC's all-in-one powder foundation Studio Fix is great for quick touch-ups and the wide range of colours means you'll get a perfect skin match.
