Gaining access to the Dáil
Sir, – If a member of the public wishes to visit the public gallery in the Dáil, he or she must first apply in writing to their local TD in order to gain admission.
Contrast this to the House of Commons in the UK where any citizen of the world can walk in off the street, pass through security and sit in the public gallery.
When I inquired as to the reasons for our restrictions I was informed that it was for “security”. This is nonsense. It is a further humiliation of the Irish people by the political classes. It needs to be changed immediately. – Yours, etc,
