Qingsong Wang began as a kind of Pop artist, and his work has grown in scale and production values in tandem with China's emergence as a global economic giant. For his vast photographic works and performance videos, he constructs epic sets and directs extensive casts in film studios. His jaundiced gaze takes in such issues as Westernisation, materialism and consumer culture, the oddity of the art world and violence.
