Devon-based Ben Howard is yet another example of how a low-key singer-songwriter can capture the imagination (as well as the spending power) of a demographic in thrall to music influenced by the likes of Van Morrison and John Martyn, yet who might find it difficult to actually name one of their albums.

Few singers make as big an impression as Storm Large, who mixes classical with cabaret and brings an impressive theatricality to her rock interpretations. If her work with Pink Martini and her recent interview for this newspaper are anything to go by, expect the between-song banter to compete with the songs. Tonight, she’s also got the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, conductor Robert Ziegler and a male vocal quartet for company.
