Dublin Painting and Sketching Club 137th Annual Exhibition
Concourses Gallery, Dún Laoghaire County Hall Apr 13-26

One of Ireland’s most historic artists’ organizations has an optional theme for it’s 137th annual show: WB Yeats. Many of its 80-plus members have responded, including Aidan Hickey, Kate Bedell and Padraig Lynch. There’s a lot more to see as well in a compendious, generous display, with such artists as Margo Banks, Michael Gemmell, Ursula Klinger, Pamela Leonard and Tom Ryan PPRHA.

You’d imagine that the theatre and the circus have a lot in common: performance, routine, cruelty towards animals. But playwrights have tended to use circus to explore things, from Tom Murphy to Billy Roche. Now Gerard Adlum sets his new play among a 1920s Vaudeville troupe, where a young boy really does run away with the circus. Stephen Brennan makes his TheatreUpstairs debut in Fast Intent’s production, while TheatreUpstairs makes a transition of its own, from lunch time venue to evening theatre. Roll up! Roll up!
