SAFEFOOD FOR LIFE

This programme enables students to develop food safety skills. Topics covered include personal hygiene, food preparation, food delivery and storage, food preparation and cooking, cleaning, design and layout of food premises, and HACCP management system. Students sit an online food hygiene exam at the end of the module; those who pass will meet minimum training standards to work in the food industry.

OUR FOOD – YOUR WAY

This programme from Agri-Aware encourages students to investigate food production in their local area, develop a healthy menu for a local restaurant, and create a campaign to reduce food wastage.

CAKE ART

A seven- to eight-week module, with four class periods a week. Students make, bake, almond-paste, sugar-paste, and decorate small cakes. Designed by Home Economics teacher Marie Therese Byrne at St Louis Secondary School in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, the course has proven popular.

A website that provides information on vitamins, with a selection of online quizzes, crosswords, drag-and-drop exercises, action mazes, an interactive slideshow, and more. An estimated eight to 10 class periods are required.
