‘TRANSITION YEAR is full of variety. This afternoon, I’m taking part in the school’s annual fun run. Each student – from first through to sixth year – gets a sponsor card and it helps raise money for the school.

“Tomorrow morning, we change gear. A workshop on intellectual disability is planned for half the day; we’ll learn about people with an intellectual disability, how we can include them, and how we can accommodate and get along with them. I’m looking forward to learning something new here. The other half of the day will be taken up with European Computer Driving Licence classes. The whole class is taking this course because it’s a really useful qualification to have.

“We have a school drama every year, usually a pantomime or a musical. This time, we decided to do it a little bit different, so we’ll be putting on a Britain’s Got Talent style show, with our own judges and acts. We’ll put the show on in December – it will be interesting to see what acts emerge!

“On Thursday, we’ll be going to Knock for a day retreat. There will be a prayer service, a variety of games, and probably some meditation. On Friday I’ll be on work experience in the local supermarket. I’ll be packing shelves, starting on the till, and maybe doing some office work. It’s my first taste of working life, and I like it so far.

“There’s so much more planned. We’ll be hosting the Childline Cheerios Breakfast for a local national school, and the money raised will go to Childline. We’re also planning a school trip to Paris in February. It will be exciting to see the Eiffel Tower, Disneyland, and the River Seine.”
