Limerick’s year as city of culture wouldn’t be complete without a John Shinnors (right) exhibition, and here it is. Not only does the artist live and work in the heart of the city, he’s also been generous in supporting the local arts in many ways. He’s augmented by two other notable local artists, Gillian Kenny and Michael Canning.

THEATRE

She Stoops to Conquer

Abbey Theatre, Dublin Ends Jan 31 7.30pm (Sat mat 2.30pm) €13-€45 abbeytheatre.ie

It may have started with a headache and a half and led to a demoralising report about its structure, but the Abbey’s programme for 2014 hasn’t been that bad, if slimmer. It concludes with Oliver Goldsmith’s 18th-century comedy of marriage markets, class divisions and chicanery, in which an upper-class young woman impersonates a maid to woo a socially anxious gentleman, and manners alter according to the circumstances. Conall Morrison directs a cast of reliables (Marty Rea, Marion O’Dwyer, David Pearse and Rory Nolan) and newcomers (Caroline Morahan, Lisa Fox and Manus Halligan). PC
