RINNEADH PLÉ ar chúrsaí Gaeilge i dTionól Thuaisceart Éireann an Mháirt seo caite. Chuir ball de chuid an SDLP, Dominic Bradley, rún os comhair an tionóil a bhain le samhail nua mhaoinithe Fhoras na Gaeilge agus na heagrais dheonacha.

D’fhiafraigh sé den aire cultúir, Carál Ní Chuilín (SF) cén pleananna a bhí aici don phróiseas nua comhairliúcháin agus pleananna teanga a roinne.

Dúirt Ní Chuilín: “The direct answer to the Members question is that I was not happy with the consultation. To that end, at the North/South sectoral meeting, Jimmy Deenihan and I announced that there will be a new consultation in November that needs to be fully inclusive.

“The core-funded Irish language bodies, like any other group in the community, are arguing for services and facilities for the constituents and people that they represent. The way in which the details of those schemes were brought forward almost made it impossible for people to consult …”

Agus cúrsaí cultúir agus Foras na Gaeilge faoi chaibidil, dúirt aontachtaí amháin nach raibh “great grasp of foreign languages” aige. D’fhreagair Ní Chuilín é: “I take exception to the Member describing the Irish language as a foreign language, and I want to put that on the record. However, I appreciate his attempt to pronounce Foras na Gaeilge. At least he tried.”
