The Low Anthem: on a high

NEW MUSIC: The best things in life are always worth waiting for

NEW MUSIC:The best things in life are always worth waiting for. The Low Anthem, three folk-pop troubadours from Providence, Rhode Island, have been waiting a couple of years for everyone else to catch up with them.

Their latest album, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, is drumming up support and new recruits at every turn.

A wonderful rub of sweet-hearted Americana and quasi-hippie tunes, Oh My Godis the album you'd recommend to a friend looking for something new to go with last year's Fleet Foxes CD.

For the band, the attention, the high-profile gigs (playing with Bruce Springsteen in London etc) and the new record deals (with Nonesuch and Bella Union) justify giving up the day jobs (including Jocie Adams’s one-time stint as a researcher at Nasa) to concentrate on the music.

That said, band member Ben Knox Miller acknowledges the slow build.

“Since we put out the new album, things have started to snowball a bit faster, but we’ve been working hard and growing this band for years. It’s more the grassroots model, as opposed to the hype explosion model. We’ve had some amazing breaks lately and now, things have started to get a bit easier.”
