STUART Cole of James Adam describes as and militaria which the auction house will be holding in Dublin next Tuesday. There are more than 600 lots on offer here, among them no less than five Irish Volunteer silver and gilt cross belt plates from 1796, one of them hallmarked to ether with regimental uniforms of various militia bands.

Medals include two presented in 1853 to the 22nd Cheshire's Sergeant Heaney from Tipperary for his bravery in battle in India. In addition, there are campaign medals from the Crimean, first and second World Wars, along with a Spanish gold cross with swords and assorted German militaria, such as Third Reich daggers and swords. Uniforms include Victorian belt pouches, swagger sticks, buttons and badges, while there are also helmets from a large number of regiments such as the Royal Irish, 4th Royal Irish Dragoons and South Irish Horse.
