For the score for his latest film, director Anthony Minghella tapped longtime collaborator and iconic French composer Gabriel Yared (best known for scoring Betty Blue and winning an Oscar for The English Patient), who then tapped iconoclastic Romford dance outfit Underworld to help him out. The resulting melange blends jazz and traditional with blues and post minimalist idioms, seamlessly combining languid melodic lines and dynamic polyrhythms with warm instrumentation (percussion, clarinet, Spanish guitar, piano) and blurry electronic noize. From the driving percussion of Monkey Two and the tender piano of Not Talking to the energetic pulse of the climactic Counterpoint Hang Pulse, Breaking and Entering emphasises atmosphere and feeling to create a very cool and sophisticated film score (as well as chill-out music). www.v2music.com  Jocelyn Clarke
