Sotheby's to sell old gun found in cowshed

A nine-foot wildfowling gun found in a cowshed in this country is to be sold at Sotheby's in Sussex next Tuesday

A nine-foot wildfowling gun found in a cowshed in this country is to be sold at Sotheby's in Sussex next Tuesday. The breech-loading percussion gun, made in 1862 by J. Chale of France, was discovered in 1943 supporting the roof of a cowshed by Tom Stewart of Killiney, Co Dublin. It is estimated to sell for £500-£700.

Also at Sotheby's Sussex auction, a number of medals and orders with Irish associations will be offered for sale on Monday. The items include a group of 19th century medals presented to Lieutenant General Herbert St George Schomberg, who was born in Co Monaghan, and a Crimea War medal from 1854, which was presented to Private John Brown from Antrim.
