I am contemplating an action against someone for hearing impairment, having just emerged from the Lambert Theatre's final performance of Snow White. The decibel level generated by the pre-teens and their minders may have done the needful.

But I jest; such enthusiasm for a play - of which puppetry is a notably interactive form - is pleasantly infectious. And care was taken here not to frighten the children with Disney-type spookiness. The wicked Queen was quite funny, and for evil disguise became an Avon Lady rather than a scary Witch; effective and apropos.

The Lambert blend was on lavish display here; colourful sets that change instantly (a speciality of the genre), a comic chorus of frogs, bright costumes and voices which, now using radio mikes, soared above the excited babble. It was all an excellent warm-up for the Christmas show - Aladdin - opening on Saturday.
