New York - The US National Guard has discovered looting in stores beneath the wrecked World Trade Centre, and police detectives are investigating whether rescue workers are responsible, reports Conor O'Clery.

The looting began last week and continued until Tuesday night this week, according to Capt Vincent Heintz, a company commander. Thieves stole handfuls of expensive watches and dozens of designer sunglasses, according to the New York Times.
