Poet At Home

And you thought there was only one talented man dishing out tea to his fans in Donegal

And you thought there was only one talented man dishing out tea to his fans in Donegal. "It's not on the scale of Daniel O'Donnell", admits Donegal Arts Officer, Traolach O Fionnain, but the poet Cathal O Searcaigh does get busloads of interested students, as well as individuals, calling to his home in the shadow of Errigal. He has come to a clever deal with Donegal County Council: they are going to let him live in his council house, rent free, for the rest of his life, and are going to build him an extension to accommodate his many visitors. The extension will also house his library and art. In return, O Searcaigh's valuable manuscripts will be donated to the County Library. The contracts have been drawn up, it seems, and the barter will take place shortly.
