The Phantom Band

Proto-robofolk, anyone? That’s what Glasgow’s Phantom Band describe themselves as, and you’d be hard-pressed to come up with another catch-all, know-all term. The group was formed by a bunch of schoolmates many moons ago (the band are all thirtysomethings). Their main ambition was to not release a record that wasn’t good enough, so, unlike most other music acts, they bided their time. While waiting for the right kind of muse to strike, they found gainful employment as artists, a personal injuries lawyer, a social worker and a librarian, all the while collectively honing their craft to the point that they remain something suspiciously like outsiders in a city that thrums to style and trends.

From Glasgow (but not a Glasgow band, they say), the spooky ones arrive in Ireland on the back of last year's fine second album, The Wants. It's cold, it's wet, it's dark – what better kind of weather to see phantoms?
