What's on your rider?Scotch and coke, with I'll Keep on Holding Onby The Action being played.

What would be on your fantasy rider? Scotch and coke, with a whole Sven Libaek album being played.

What's the best gig you've been to?With no competition, it was The Velvet Underground at Glastonbury – the perfect balance of good weather, great sound, the right amount of psychotropic "refreshment", and a band that sounded more fabulously grimy than ever.

What are your favourite and least favourite venues?Favourite: The Olde Town Creamery out in Maple Lake near Minneapolis – bless their Minnesotan socks. Favourite venue in Ireland is Chapter One in Cavan – a great little place. Least favourite? Not really sure, but I usually find that if the gents' toilets are a mess, that's not a good sign.

Who is the most famous person to have shown up at one of your gigs?David Soul! I didn't know whether to burst into Silver Ladyor launch myself onto a car roof.

What's your crowd-pleasing number?I guess Fan Clubdoes seem to garner a lot of attention. It's not often people get the chance to sing along with the names of notorious serial killers.

Groupies. Would you?Become a groupie? No way. Have you seen what they do to those people?

How many roadies does it take to change your lightbulbs (ie, how big is your entourage)?I'm working on that one.

Have you a special stage wardrobe? No, but I intend to build one.

Any useful stage tips?Yes: if you're standing on one, feel grateful.

What's the worst thing ever thrown at you?An oak chair.

If you could be in any other band, which one?I could happily spend my days in the High Llamas. Failing that, I'd go for Brian Wilson's band, or Paul McCartney's. I'm not fussy.

What's your best tour story?I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to publish it, but it ends with the band playing their set at three times the normal speed.

Duncan Maitland plays Cork on Wednesday. His new album, Lullabies for the 21st Century, is out now.
