The Script

Science and Faith, Sony ****

Science and Faith, Sony ****

With their debut album selling shedloads, the Dublin trio established themselves as classy purveyors of gleaming contemporary pop-rock. What stood out most was the quality of the production - from people who have worked behind the control desk for some of today's biggest musical names.

That same burnished feeling is all over Science and Faith. Opener You Won't Feel A Thingis straight-up rock music with an emotive twist, while current single, For The First Time, takes a lyrical look at recessionary times. Clearly, there are singles aplenty here: the brooding If You Ever Come Backand the adroitly put together Nothing. The pop core of this album may be a bit more buried, in comparison to the debut, but there is a sense of a group flexing more musical muscle and experimenting with different tempos. A shade darker, then, but more accomplished and better thought out.
