Two young Irish bands will be looking to make their mark on the UK’s music press next month when they play The Next Big Thing Festival. Dublin band CODES and Derry’s General Fiasco will join the likes of BBC Sound of 2010 winner Ellie Goulding, Marina and the Diamonds and Mercury Music Prize nominees Sweet Billy Pilgrim in London.

This year marks the inaugural Next Big Thing event, which aims to showcase the most hyped up-and-coming bands, as well as to advertise several lesser-known acts set to make an impact this year. More than 60 bands will play across five venues from February 4th to 15th. CODES and General Fiasco are the only Irish bands to be selected for the event.

"We're really looking forward to representing the talent coming out of Ireland alongside CODES," Owen Strathern of General Fiasco told The Ticket. "This is a great way for us to kick-start a busy year ahead. We can't wait to play the show, and we get to share the stage with two other great bands, Birds of Tokyo and Band of Skulls."
