Neon Jungle: Welcome to the Jungle

Artist: Neon Jungle
Genre: Pop
Label: RCA

Neon Jungle arrived in a tangle of stroppy shape-throwing and moody pointing with the brash, bright and feisty single Trouble. The British four-piece had the look for the times and, it seemed, the sound as well, with Trouble's spiky edges and infectious pop powers right at the chart-bound cutting-edge. A year on and their debut album doesn't quite land with the same impact. The band and their backroom team have tried hard, with the pro forma multitude of songwriters and producers on hand. The problem is that there's little here to match the cheeky gumption of Trouble. Braveheart is a valiant stab in a roughly similar direction, but the rest of the album is propped between stools of EDM surge and big ballads. There are the makings of some decent boom tunes (So Alive, Bad Man), though not quite enough to match the quartet's neon ambition. twitter.com/NeonJungleMusic Download: Trouble
