Led Zeppelin front man Robert Plant confirmed for the Electric Picnic

Plant was the lead singer in the biggest hard rock band in history

Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant has been confirmed to play the Electric Picnic festival this year.

The frontman of the biggest hard rock band in history will be presenting his new band The Sensational Space Shifters at Stradbally this summer.

The Led Zeppelin reunion in 2007 at the O2 in London was the most oversubscribed concert date in history attracting millions of applications for 20,000 tickets. It was turned into a live CD/DVD entitled Celebration Day.

The band have given tantalising hints that they might get back together for a concert tour with Plant saying recently that he was free in 2014.

He has included several Led Zeppelin standards in his Sensational Space Shifters set most notably Black Dog, Going to California, Ramble On and Rock and Roll among others.

Also confirmed is successful British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding while Dublin band Little Green Cars have been garnering critical and commercial plaudits for their debut album Absolute Zero which has been an Irish No.1.

The latest Electric Picnic announcement also includes ska legends The Beat and American rockers Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The punk impresario Terri Hooley, who was the subject of the recent film Good Vibrations will bring his DJ set to Stradbally.

The Electric Picnic takes place in Stradbally between August 30th and September 1st. The headliners are Bjork, Arctic Monkeys and Fat Boy Slim.
