Artist: Fetty Wap
Genre: Hip-Hop & Rap
Label: 300/Atlantic

You can't argue with Fetty Wap's prowess when it comes to hit tracks. His monster cut Trap Queen seems as if it's been around forever, while My Way and Again have shown that the one-eyed New Jersey rapper is not a one-trick pony when it comes to flexing commercial muscle.

Wap’s strengths are clearly the timelessness and elegance of his melodies and harmonies and the odd, off-kilter slur of his voice.

When he uses these attributes to embellish tracks like Time and Rewind, you're swayed by his charm and vulnerability.

But because there's an album here which needs to be filled, there are also times when Wap veers into trap-music-by-rote terrain and a track like Rock My Chain lacks the focus and magnetism he brings to bear elsewhere.

Wap’s a rapper who may find that a focus on tender, soft-shuffle jams will serve him better in the long run.
