Drenge

Drenge like to keep things simple. From Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District (within spitting distance of the charmingly named Devil's Arse cavern), the Loveless brothers put blood and a whole lot more into their roaring, furious debut album. They're like a dog with a bone when they get a sniff of a distorted riff they like, twisting it this way and that on rattling metal music workouts I Want to Break You in Half and Bloodsports. Using just guitar and drums, Drenge's more-with-less approach does occasionally veer away from the Black Keys/White Stripes template, though some of these tracks (Let's Pretend, Nothing) could do with some judicious editing. They're at their best when the riffs and swaggers come gloriously together on I Don't Want to Make Love to
You, full of spikey blues and stomping garagebeat panache. drenge.co.uk
