There's no name more closely associated with the klezmer- flavoured clarinet writing of Osvaldo Golijov's The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blindthan that of David Krakauer. Krakauer makes his Irish debut in the Irish premiere of the work's orchestral version with the Ulster Orchestra. Katarina Andreasson conducts, and the programme, which opens with Finzi's Prelude, also includes Mozart's great Serenade for 13 wind instruments.

There's no soloist in with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra at the NCH, when the orchestra plays under the returning Uruguayan guest conductor Carlos Kalmar. The programme offers Ives (the haunting Unanswered Question), Bartók (the Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta), and Dvorák (the New World Symphony).

Opera Theatre Company announced its own demise last year, only to be reprieved to continue working into 2011. The company has chosen to present Donizetti's Don Pasquale as Pasqual€, the name being explained by turning the bachelor of the title role into a banker. Martin Higgins is the Pasquale and Claudio Boyle the Norina. The preview is at TCD's Beckett Theatre on Thursday, with two performances following before the show takes to the road for a 10-venue tour.

Sad news this week is that Thursday’s recital at the National Concert Hall by pianist Murray Perahia has been cancelled because of the pianist’s “recurring wrist injury”. It’s the second time in five years that Perahia has had to cancel a Dublin appearance.
