Two rising Irish opera singers are in action at home this week. Soprano Anna Devin (above) is in a lunchtime recital at the NCH John Field Room. Devin is currently a participant in the Jette Parker Young Artists’ programme at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, and can be heard as the female lead in Delius’s A Village Romeo and Juliet in a concert performance at the South Bank Centre on September 25th. After that she sings Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne Touring Opera.

Mezzo soprano Tara Erraught is at the KBC Great Music in Irish Houses festival, appearing in Killruddery House in Bray. Erraught won the second prize in the 2007 Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, was in the opera studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich from 2008 to 2010, and became a member of the Bavarian company’s ensemble in 2010. She has also appeared at the Hamburg State Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival, and will sing Rosina in Rossini’s Barber of Seville at the Vienna State Opera at the end of October.

And a soprano of an older generation, Cara O’Sullivan, heads the cast for a production of Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci at the Everyman Palace Theatre. Half of Cork seems to be involved, and the promise is that, for this opera set in a circus, the Everyman will be turned into “a pulsating and dynamic fairground environment in which audience and artists joyfully co-mingle”.
