Blimey, what’s all this then? A veritable feast of nationwide activities in the areas of music, music and whatever it is you’re holding in your hand (that’d be a guitar, then), that’s what.

It’s a safe bet to say that all tastes are catered for with the likes of the Rhythm Roots Festival in Kilkenny (John Grant and Wilko Johnson? Yum); Lark in the Park, Lisburn (Razorlight? Oh, dear); Vantastival in Dunany, Co Louth (Whipping Boy, Duke Special? Bring it on); Live at the Latin Quarter in Galway (Cathy Davey, Jape); the newly inaugurated Sibin Festival in Slane, Co Meath (a mash-up of hip-hop, reggae, electro and dubstep tunes, with live acts covering the full musical spectrum); Festival of the Fires in Mullingar, Co Westmeath (take your pick from The Saw Doctors and Kíla to Paddy Casey and Mundy); and the very good Drogheda Fringe Festival in Co Louth (ska/reggae band Trenchtown).

There are other acts on over the weekend, of course, so whatever part of the country you’re in there seems to be enough to be getting on with. All we need is the weather . . .
