Go Tell Fire to the MountainLyf ***

Wu Lyf certainly get top marks for intrigue and myth-making. The World United Lucifer Youth Foundation collective's profile has steadily grown thanks to quasi-political doctrines, a bunch of gigs that were more like arty happenings, and savvy media manipulation. Such mischievousness will get you so far, but the music ultimately has to support the posturing. Go Tell Fire to the Mountaindoes well on this front. The Manchester collective has a fondness for moody, passionate epic rock constructions, hence the shimmering guitars, soulful vocal howls and cathedral- sized keyboards and organs keeping everything in place. It sounds fantastic the first and second time, but it's difficult to find anything that goes beyond that basic template. As it is, you'll dig Cave Songand Heavy Pop, but there's a strong lack of a killer anthem to take the testifying to the next level. See wulyf.org
