Follow Your Bliss Po'Girl Music Inc ***

There's an attractive, engaging warmth to Po' Girl, a Canadian- Americana quartet that has been there or thereabouts since 2003 without quite making a big breakthrough. Their music, primarily written and sung by Allison Russell and Awna Teixeira, liberally dips into all manner of influences and cultures. It sometimes gives the impression of a patchwork quilt, although equally Po' Girl can never be accused of sameness. This is their fifth collection, and among the highlights is Russell's heartfelt plea to her mother ( Kathy), Teixeira's sensitive Pink Shoes, the stirring title track and the jaunty As Long as We Go. Not unlike the eminently likeable Australian band The Waifs, Po' Girl clearly enjoy what they do, and they manage to get it across with smiles and tears aplenty. See pogirl.net
