You have to hand it to Lisa Marie Presley. Now 44, she’s stepping into the ring for another bout with fate, chasing down the demons and expectations that come with being the only daughter of The King. For her third album (and first in six years), Presley has in her corner the multi-talented producer T Bone Burnett. Indeed, his signature clippety-clop rhythm and angular echo- laden guitar marks the slow- burning opener, Over Me.

The colourful pop princess with two platinum albums has left the building – this is a new Lisa Marie, sultry, drenched in shady atmospherics, leaning heavily on the southern country soul of Shelby Lynne. Songs such as Close to the Edge, Soften the Blows and the title track seek to reclaim her life from the tabloids and land a few punches in the process.
