The Followill brothers (and one cousin) must be in hog heaven following the mega-success of their fourth album. Only by the Nightspawned such hits as Sex on Fireand turned the quartet into the biggest bar band in the world. It also brought them dangerously close to the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band abyss, but on this new album they've kept faith with their roots via such songs as Pyro, Back Down Southand Pickup Truck. This could be their Hollywood album - the CD cover features palm trees and a sun-dried shot of the Followills standing on a beach at, yes, sundown. True, Beach Sideconjures up images of four country boys sipping margaritas by the pool, and the doo-wop vibes of Maryring out with echos of surf bands past. But The End, Pony Upand Birthdaywear their dark hearts on their sleeves, Radioactiveis a succinct blend of rebellion and redemption, and The Immortalsis an eloquent call to action.
