Kin, Co-Operative Music ****

Beginning life as a collection of anonymous YouTube videos that went viral, iamamiwhoami was eventually revealed as the multimedia project of Swedish musician Jonna Lee. It would be no great surprise if Kin was a disappointment after such a long and secretive lead-in, but happily, it's not. Admittedly, these nine tracks are all subtle variations on the same theme, but Lee finds the right balance between icy electronica that shifts moodily amidst echoed vocals (Sever, Play) and songs that throb with a retro-pop heartbeat (the twinkling Goods is practically Kylie-esque). There's plenty of experimentation, but it's understated and sustains interest while still retaining the enigmatic ambience that Lee and her producer Claes Björklund have striven so fiercely for. But best of all, these are just great songs. towhomitmayconcern.cc
