Tricky meets South Rakkas Crew

Tricky meets South Rakkas Crew

Domino ***

Three cheers for whatever bright spark brought Tricky and Florida production dons South Rakkas Crew together. On the table are tracks from Tricky's excellent 2008 album, Knowle Best Boy, which are then nipped, tucked and tweaked by producers who've made their bones working with dancehall giants such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Sizzla and grafting electrifying remixes for Alicia Keys, Beck and Timberlake. Bacativeis where this soundclash takes flight, with the recast track now a low-slung, bumping bass monster full of mischief and sci-fi unease. Elsewhere, the spacey grooves, rampant electro reworkings and swaggering, stonking bass will get you humming. If this is what the South Rakkas dudes can do with Tricky's second-hand stuff, imagine what a straight-up collaboration might produce. www.myspace.com/trickola
